10 Facts about Silk – the “Queen of fabrics”
1) No Bed Bugs
Silk is a natural fibre which bed bugs cannot live in. Dust Mites, mould and funguses all find silk an inhospitable environment, so it’s great for asthma and allergy sufferers.
2) Keeps you cool and keeps you warm!
Ever wondered why silk is used for thermal underwear, and as loose clothing in the tropics? Silk is a breathable and all climate fibre because it allows our body heat to dissipate, regulating our natural body temperature and thereby reducing night sweats and hot flushes often associated with conventional bedding materials. Try the silk hold-ups to experience hosiery like no other. You won’t even know you’re wearing them.
3) Holds back the wrinkles
Silk is smooth and has a sheen which is said to have an anti-ageing effect on the skin, minimising sleep lines and diminishing facial wrinkles.
4) Silk is safe
Silk is 100% natural, hypoallergenic, ideal for people with allergies and breathing difficulties. It is also naturally fire retardant.
5) Silk is ideal for eczema sufferers
Silk bedding provides a smooth, friction free surface which is kind to sensitive skin. By dissipating the heat, it also reduces the irritation caused by overheated skin.
6) Silk is light
Silk is a soft and light fibre creating less pressure on joints, and enables easier movement with less resistance on the bed sheets. It is ideal for people suffering from Osteoarthritis, Shingles or chronic aches and pains.
7) Silk is static free
Its smoothness allows our hair to move freely eliminating “bed head” thereby reducing the number of split ends, and hair loss!
8) Silk lasts
Silk is robust, resists soiling and dries quickly. Fragments of silk have been uncovered in archaeological digs from the 4th century BC. If taken care of, which is not as difficult as you may assume, you can be buying a beautiful heirloom.
9) Silk is beautiful
The lustre and sheen of pure silk cannot be replicated in any other fibre. Take a look at the wonderful glow from the two-tone silk dressing gowns, or the sheen from the hand-dyed silk scarves. On a bed, cushion, or table top, silk drapes and shines as no other fabric can – the colour pure and vibrant.
10) Caring for silk is not difficult
Silk is a lightweight but an immensely strong fabric. If you apply some simple rules, your silk items will perform time after time. Silk sheets, pillowcases and duvet covers can be washed on a cold wash, hand, wool or silk cycle using a mild detergent only, similar to the one we offer for sale.  Do not tumble dry and avoid drying in direct sunlight as this can cause fading.  Air drying is recommended, but it won’t take long as silk dries very quickly! As with their cotton or wool counterparts, we recommend that silk blankets, bedspreads, duvets and pillows are dry cleaned.
